Carbon Smart™ Wood for Mass Timber
Sustainable Strength, Built for Tomorrow
Why Mass Timber?
Mass timber is setting a new standard for construction—naturally sustainable, durable, and climate-friendly. But Carbon Smart™ Wood takes it even further, combining salvaged materials with a fully transparent, traceable supply chain.
-
Mass timber reduces embodied carbon by up to 40-60% compared to traditional building materials.
-
Buildings account for 39% of global carbon emissions. Mass timber can reduce emissions in the built environment.
-
Mass timber construction reduces onsite labor costs by 15-20% and shortens project timelines.
Setting a new standard…
Traditional mass timber’s benefits are amplified with Carbon Smart™ Wood’s unique approach—using salvaged wood materials that have been tracked, milled, and kiln-dried with our proprietary Traece® technology. Our process is built to be both climate-conscious and economically efficient.
Full chain of custody transparency
Our Traece® software ensures every piece of Carbon Smart™ Wood is traceable from origin to installation, offering unrivaled transparency.
Carbon reduction & local impact
We source, process, and dry our wood locally, which means fewer emissions from transport and stronger regional economies.
The benefits of salvaged material…
Using salvaged wood means we’re tapping into resources that would otherwise go to waste—trees affected by disease, disaster, or decline, reimagined as structural building materials.
Every year, 36 million tons of urban wood waste are generated in the U.S.—Carbon Smart™ Wood reclaims this wood for a new purpose.”
— US Forest Service
Proven quality & resilience…
Carbon Smart™ Wood is rigorously tested and validated, meeting PRG-320 standards for strength and durability in mass timber applications.
“Mass timber has the strength-to-weight ratio to replace steel in mid- and high-rise buildings, contributing to a more resilient building stock.”
— Think Wood
Our impact & materials
Each Carbon Smart™ Wood project supports more than just construction—it contributes to reforestation and regional growth. To date, we’ve planted 7,775 trees and avoided 13,600 MT of CO₂ emissions by reclaiming and reusing urban wood.
Every 100,000 board feet or 4,000 cubic feet of CLT provides carbon savings for mass timber applications with full traceability which can be calculated into simple-to-understand metrics. like the ones below.
